I watched Britney’s MTV special, but I don’t feel like I’m coming away from it enlightened or anything about Britney. If anything, it showed us some clips of Britney’s every day life and that she’s a person just like everyone else. She’s fun, girly, likes to shop and dance and loves her two sons. MTV promoted the special as something that would be a little bit more revealing that it really was, though – when the interviewer asked Britney questions, all of her answers were generalized – she never refers to specific people (except in the beginning she mentions Justin [Timberlake] and Kevin [Federline] by name) or specific incidents her fans might be curious about. She says she was lonely and let certain people take advantage of her, so one might guess that she was talking about her paparazzo ex-boyfriend Adnan Ghalib. But all of her answers are cryptic – she never reveals very much. And it’s kind of annoying.
What I feel the fans learned the most about Britney is the reality of how hard it is for her to go anywhere or do anything without being followed and the magnitude of the impact that this has on her life. After seeing how it is from her point of view, I felt sorry for Britney because it’s obvious that oftentimes, she just wants to do normal everyday things, like go for a walk with her friends, but she can’t. After seeing her dance, shoot her video, shop, and goof around with her family and friends, I think fans will feel a newfound sympathy for Britney as a young artist who has faced challenges that stem from becoming so famous at such a young age, and that they will come away from it rooting for her. :)
